EL84 Tung-Sol Power Tubes
Tung-Sol EL84/6BQ5 reissue.
The Tung-Sol EL84/6BQ5 was a popular OEM tube for American made EL84/6BQ5 guitar amplifiers, such as those built by Gibson and Harmony. Due to its rugged construction and conservative ratings, it is the most reliable current production EL84 type available for use in Vox AC-30 type amplifiers. In addition, its linearity and tone characteristic makes it the ideal replacement for EL84 hi-fi amplifiers, such as those built by Fisher, Scott and Harmon-Kardon.
Originally designed by Mullard in 1954, they wanted to show how good the EL84 tube was for audio amplification. To prove it, Mullard created the now famous Classic 5-10 amplifier (check it out online, there are kits for making one)

By: Giulio on 12 August 2022These tubes made a big difference. The stock jjs in my peavey amp were dead and lifeless. Installing the Tung Sol's bought my amp back to life. Money well spent

Thanks for my Tung-Sol EL84s Evatco!
13 April 2018I recently purchased a matched pair of Tung Sol EL84s for my Magic Amps Brit MK2 (AC15 style) amp. I've been using JJs for years but wanted to try something that might offer the impression of a little more headroom. Of course a different EL84 isn't going to change the amp circuit or the many other variables that determine actual headroom of an amp, but the Tung Sol pair seem to stay cleaner a little higher in volume range of the amp. Of course I'm not judging them against a brand new set of JJs but rather working from memory so take from this impression what you will. The Tung Sols sound a little brighter and more detailed to me than the JJ's at this point. Maybe not as warm or thick but I'll see what happens with a few more hours on them. Obviously it's impossible to compare durability at this point. Thanks Evacto for the good service and prompt dispatch.
